Where Tennessee Correction Releases Go
A TDOC release can place a person on parole, probation, mandatory reentry supervision, another form of community supervision, or inactive status after discharge. These outcomes are not interchangeable. Parole and probation identify continuing state supervision. Inactive is an administrative status that can be consistent with discharge or expiration, but it should be quoted as shown instead of expanded into a claim that every legal obligation ended.
A transfer to another custodian is also different from community release. FOIL should be read with the location and sentence information, then checked against the judgment and any receiving-agency record. If a location still names a jail or prison, the person may remain confined even though a hearing occurred or a future date is displayed.
Confirm a TDOC Release in FOIL
The Felony Offender Information Lookup is the official public starting point for people currently or formerly in TDOC custody or supervision. A TOMIS number is the strongest search input. Otherwise use the exact name and compare date of birth or age, photo, offense, county, and sentence details before selecting a record.
- Open FOIL and enter the TOMIS number or the most exact available name.
- Compare identifiers and do not select a person by photo alone.
- Open the complete detail rather than relying on the results-row status.
- Read status, location, sentence, parole-hearing, and release fields together.
- Record the access date and quote each date label exactly as displayed.
A non-incarcerated label and release information can support a released status. “Parole” or “probation” means the person remains under supervision. A future release-eligibility, parole, or sentence-expiration date does not establish physical release. If information conflicts with a judgment or jail statement, confirm it with the originating clerk, jail, and TDOC sentence-management channel.

Carroll County and the TDOC Network
No TDOC prison was identified in Carroll County, and TDOC does not assign every Carroll sentence to one nearby institution. It places prisoners across a statewide network. FOIL supplies the actual location during incarceration and remains the more durable public index after release. Geography is not a sound basis for guessing where a person served a state sentence.
State-sentenced prisoners can also be housed in local jails. TDOC Community Supervision After Release
A parole grant does not itself produce immediate release. The release plan must be approved, and pre-parole conditions may need completion. Probation can be imposed directly or follow split confinement. TDOC directs people placed on probation or released from split confinement to report to the supervising officer within 48 hours.
For Carroll County state supervision, District 61 in Dresden serves Carroll, Gibson, and Weakley Counties. It is not a jail. Mandatory reentry supervision under Tenn. Code §40-35-506 can also place an eligible person in community supervision near or after sentence expiration. TDOC Release Dates Are Not One Date
Tennessee records can distinguish release eligibility, sentence expiration, parole timing, and actual release information. The official FOIL gateway does not promise one universal “projected release date” label. Read the live record's wording and do not convert one type of date into another.
Credits, offense dates, statutory service rules, detainers, court orders, disciplinary changes, and parole decisions can affect a forward-looking calculation. A date in FOIL is useful evidence of the state calculation on the access date, but it is not alone proof that the person walked out of custody. For actual release, combine the current status and release fields with the custodian record.

This route is designed for identified historical material and is more appropriate than guessing from a missing FOIL field.
Ask for the specific admission, sentence, release, discharge, or supervision documents needed. Privacy exemptions and record availability can limit production. A narrow description tied to a full name, TOMIS number, date of birth, and time period gives Records Management a better chance to find the correct file.
Verify a Carroll TDOC Release Across Records
A reliable state-release finding uses the documents for both legal authority and physical status. FOIL is the quick public index. The court judgment defines the sentence. TDOC's archived file can supply historical sentence and release material. When a state-sentenced person was physically housed in Carroll County Jail, the jail record can add the local departure time and receiving agency.
Start by saving the FOIL status, location, date labels, TOMIS number, and access date. Match the offense and county information to the judgment rather than relying on a photo. If the record says parole or probation, verify the supervising office through the field directory. If it says inactive, quote that word and request the discharge material needed for a more exact conclusion.
When a date conflicts with a judgment, do not silently select one. Ask the clerk whether a later or amended order exists and ask TDOC whether the public record is awaiting entry or review. If the jail says the person transferred to TDOC, search FOIL with the TOMIS number and note the new location. A transfer is not a community release. If FOIL still shows the county jail or another institution, the person remains reported in custody. If the status becomes parole or probation, inspect the release information and identify District 61 or the other assigned field office.
The statistical presence of TDOC-backup prisoners at Carroll County Jail does not prove that any named person had that status. Use the individual booking sheet, TOMIS match, and judgment.
